This position ignited his passion for aviation and set him on a journey of lifelong learning and development. In 2017, he returned to the industry with a degree in aircraft maintenance engineering. Q) Why did you become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer instead of an Aircraft Marshaller?

Aiman: I always aspired to work as an aircraft maintenance engineer because I wanted to be directly involved in improving the experience of our customers and the products our airline offers. As a maintenance engineer, I get the opportunity to work closely with the latest advancements in aircraft technology. Departure checks are one of my favorite moments because I get to see our esteemed guests smiling, posing for photos with our aircraft, and enjoying themselves. Knowing that my efforts contribute to creating these cherished memories and ensuring every flight is safe and enjoyable fills me with immense pride.

Q) Why might someone decide to pursue a career in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering?

Aiman: Aircraft maintenance engineering offers a unique combination of technical challenges and responsibility. It allows aviation enthusiasts to work on intricate systems that ensure aircraft performance and safety. It’s a rewarding career for those who enjoy solving problems, embracing continuous learning, and contributing to the smooth operation of the aviation industry.

Q) Which aircraft do you enjoy working on the most, and why?

Aiman: I particularly enjoy working on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Its cutting-edge features, modern design, and advanced technology make it an exciting aircraft to maintain. The challenges it presents keep me engaged, and there’s no greater satisfaction than ensuring it’s ready for flight.

Q) Can you tell us about the safety precautions when working on aircraft?

Aiman: Safety is paramount in aviation maintenance. Every task demands strict adherence to protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), thorough inspections, and precise procedures. Coordination with other teams is critical to avoid misunderstandings and ensure the aircraft operates safely. Regular training sessions are also essential to stay updated with the latest safety regulations and practices.

Aiman: A typical day begins with reviewing the maintenance schedule and inspecting the aircraft for reported issues. Tasks range from routine inspections and minor repairs to complex troubleshooting and system overhauls. Collaboration with other departments, meticulous documentation, and rigorous testing are integral to ensuring every aircraft is airworthy.

Q) How broad is the role of a Maintenance Engineer in the aviation sector?

Maintenance engineers play a crucial role in supporting the airline’s operational efficiency by guaranteeing that aircraft are safe and reliable. They also safeguard the airline’s reputation by prioritizing passenger safety and comfort.

Q) How might robots affect Airport Maintenance Personnel in the future?

Aiman: While automation and robotics will undoubtedly enhance efficiency and accuracy, the human element will remain indispensable in aviation maintenance. Robots can assist with data analysis and repetitive tasks, but they cannot replace the decision-making, problem-solving, and adaptability of skilled engineers in challenging or unexpected situations. In my view, robots will complement human expertise rather than replace it in the future.

Aiman: My advice to aspiring aircraft maintenance engineers is to build a strong technical foundation, stay curious, and embrace lifelong learning. Passion and perseverance are vital in this field.
