My name is Fawaz Alkhreisha and recently I started a project that aims to shed light on the beauty of recycled and reused material that people often disregard. The idea started at school when in grade 10 we needed to create a personal project. Later on, I decided to continue this project and take it a step further and to introduce it to the world. This is where RE: TIRE started, RE: TIRE is a local initiative where old tires are collected from the environment. Then these tires are transformed into artistic pieces of furniture such as tables, chairs and planters. This happens by wrapping the tire around with ropes and adding wood and legs below the wheel and adding a cushion above. The extra space inside the wheel is kept creating a storage area inside the chair as well. Tires have damaging effects on us and on nature as they are thrown into the environment where they create forest fires and release toxic chemicals. As a result of this initiative I have been accepted to showcase my work at Amman Design Week student exhibition. By creating these products RE: TIRE hopes to raise awareness and about the environmental crisis the world faces and inspire people to find beauty in upcycling.
