Illiteracy has become a rising issue, with people investing their time in the mundane rather than seeking the truth hidden beyond borders. With new technologies and tools, many significant tragedies are being tucked away or dismissed because of desensitisation and moronic trends popularised by such technologies. However, is it only technology’s fault?
To care ,or not to care? It is a question that many surprisingly ask daily. Articles about calamities are being ignored and documentaries of the horrors many are facing are getting called “boring”. “Why should I watch a documentary about …? It is not like we are unaware of it happening!”.

To your surprise, you are very unaware. Are you aware of the Nigerian women that get sexually assaulted daily? Or the slavery and sexual assault of children in Congo? Are you familiar with the displacement of millions of Sudanese people? Have you seen how Syrian refugees are forced to live? Or how Palestinians and Lebanese civilians are losing their lands and families to colonialism and weapons of destruction?
All that we have been seeing recently on the media is “rare” collectibles and shopping hauls, while forgetting that others do not have the privilege of rating new fashion releases and hunting down useless products. Children, women and men worldwide are being killed, starved and taken advantage of, while you are “doomscrolling”. To ignore the recent events is to ignore history, as these events will once become forgotten like the estimate of 200,000 comfort women and girls that were abducted for sexual acts.
History repeats itself and suffering is again being ignored and neglected. Children are being forced into marriages for financial purposes and women are being killed for mere accusations in South Asia and many other places. The issue is not only in what we choose to watch and follow up with, but also in our inability to comprehend and grasp the urgency of such catastrophes. Can you read the word “apartheid” or “impinge”? The lack of humanity presently is not the only factor affecting this matter, but the illiteracy and unwillingness to learn is a huge and crucial part of the problem.

Remember those who have suffered and are suffering till this day. Humanity is what makes a living being a human, without it you are a programmed puppet that has the ability to walk and talk. For a nation to be free, all nations have to be free and all humans have to be saved.
