Empowering Refugee Youth Through Digital Media
Kidoz Times, in partnership with Al-Midad Foundation, implemented the project “Blogging for Change” as an initiative aimed at empowering refugee youth in Jordan to express their stories and lived experiences through digital media, transforming their voices into impactful content that serves their communities and challenges prevailing stereotypes. The project is rooted in a strong belief in young people’s right to self-expression and in the role of digital media as an effective tool for social impact and inclusive storytelling.
The project began with a series of participatory dialogue sessions, during which Kidoz Times directly engaged with refugee youth aged 15–30 to better understand their needs, interests, and priorities. These sessions provided a safe space for participants to articulate their aspirations and identify the skills they considered most relevant for developing their capacities in digital content creation. Participants’ inputs were carefully documented and used as the foundation for designing a responsive and youth-centered training program that reflects their real priorities.
Building on these insights, Kidoz Times designed and delivered an intensive training program targeting 60 refugee youth, divided into four cohorts, each consisting of 15 participants. The trainings were conducted at the Kidoz Times space and facilitated by specialized trainers. The program followed an integrated and practical approach, focusing on core digital media skills, including content writing, photography, video editing, and design, while taking into consideration the different age groups and balancing theoretical knowledge with hands-on application.
The project’s objective went beyond knowledge transfer to focus on practical empowerment. Accordingly, each participant was required to produce a final output—either a video or a written article—applying the skills acquired throughout the training and expressing their personal story and perspective. These outputs served as tangible evidence of the participants’ skill development, increased self-confidence, and ability to use digital media as a tool for expression, influence, and positive social engagement.
The “Blogging for Change” project demonstrates the capacity of Kidoz Times, in partnership with Al-Midad Foundation, to design programs grounded in active listening, transform needs into opportunities, and equip refugee youth with practical tools to amplify their voices. The project offers donors and partners a clear model of investing in people, empowering underrepresented groups, and creating sustainable media and social impact—because their voices truly deserve to be heard.
